Quote of the Week 3/28/22; Happy Birthday Sora!

Hey guys! Yesterday and today were and are big days for Kingdom Hearts! Yesterday was the 20th anniversary for Kingdom Hearts in Japan, as it was the 28th there already. But today, most everyone here in the west are giving the series a shout out for reaching such a large milestone. Twenty years later, Kingdom Hearts is getting more love than ever before, and I am here for it! But not only is it the 20th anniversary, it is also Sora’s birthday as well, according to the series’ director, Tetsuya Nomura! In that case, for this week I’m going to put the spotlight on more than one quote.

Each of the mainstream games (KHI, KHII, and KHIII) begin with an introduction from Sora, and they have each become some of the most famous lines in the series. I’ll be putting the spotlight on those to give Sora some love! Take a look!

“I’ve been having these weird thoughts lately. Like…is any of this for real, or not?” – Sora (Kingdom Hearts I)

This is the line that started it all, folks! The very first words to be spoken in the series, and how fitting they are! We were never told what this line means, and it was never mentioned again until 2019 (mind you that this line was first spoken 20 years ago today) when the trailer for the ReMind DLC was leaked that Christmas. At the end of the trailer, Yozora and Sora say this line again and THAT made the fandom go crazy. I think we’ll finally get to know what this line means…whenever the the next game comes out…maybe.

“A scattered dream that’s like a far-off memory, a far-off memory that’s like a scattered dream. I wanted to line the pieces up- yours and mine.” – Sora (Kingdom Hearts II)

To this day no one quite knows what Sora’s talking about. There are multiple theories, however. Some people think he’s talking about Roxas, others think Ventus or Xehanort. I’ve seen some people saying he’s referring to his memories and Namine, which would make a lot of since considering that KHII opens with him still in a coma while Namine is trying to repair his memories. One of my favorites is that perhaps he is speaking to the player, which would be interesting. Whatever the case may be, it’s one of my favorite lines!

“They can take your world. They can take your heart. Cut you loose from all you know. But if it’s your fate… then every step forward will always be a step closer to home.” – Sora (Kingdom Hearts III)

A lot of people agree that this is the best out of these three opening lines. In some ways, I have to agree. To me, this shows how much Sora has grown since the beginning. Kingdom Hearts III was Sora’s most difficult journey yet, and paired with the “Face My Fears” song that plays directly after this line is spoken, it foreshadows what is to come.

So what do you think of these lines? Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below! As always, God bless y’all and have a great week! And may your hearts be your guiding key!

Happy birthday Sora! ❤
