Kingdom Hearts Theory

Hey there fellow Kingdom Hearts fans!  We have a lot to look forward to tomorrow with the new Kingdom Hearts: ReMind DLC!  But before that comes out, I want to share a few theories that I’ve been thinking about, and I’m looking forward to getting into it!  There’s a lot to talk about, and if you’re a fan, you know that Kingdom Hearts can get very, VERY complicated with it’s plots, so before we jump into all that theorizing, let’s get a little educated on what exactly’s going on here…

What is ReMind????

Kingdom Hearts III left us all wondering what the heck that ending was.  First, we see Kairi die at the hands of Xehanort, then after the big battle, Sora went go somehow get her back.  At the very end of the game, we see everyone gathering on Destiny Islands for a big get together, and there’s Kairi sitting up there with Sora…or is she?

Turns out that Sora’s not really there.  So where is he???  We’re probably about to find out what exactly happened to him in this DLC, and hopefully we’ll get the answers we’ve been waiting for, because Kingdom Hearts games usually end up asking more questions than answering the ones we already have.

Secret Ending…

So what about this secret ending?  It seems to be providing clues as to where Sora went.  We see Sora waking up in Shibuya, Japan, which could mean two things; either Sora is now in the real word, or he has entered the setting of one of Square Enix’s best works, The World Ends With You.  And he’s not alone!  Riku is there with him, and now we are left to ponder how they got there and why.  Oh, and they’re being watched.  Why don’t you watch the ending and see what I mean?

I’ve shared theories about this secret ending before, but since it’s directly related to what I’ll be talking about today, so it’ll be discussed some more here.

In this secret ending, Sora and Riku are exploring their new surroundings.  Now, this is Kingdom Hearts.  The slightest thing could mean something big, which is why it’s SO HARD to figure out what’s going on.  There’s something about the puddles on the ground that don’t seem right to me, and although Riku and Sora could be in the same world, I don’t think that their in the same realm.  Bear with me here…

Remember way back in Dream Drop Distance when they got separated in two different Traverse Towns?  They could see reflections of each other in the different realms, but could not speak to each other.  And not only that, but characters from The World Ends With You were featured in this game.  That’s why I think that this could be a possibility that Riku and Sora are in total different realities.  And look at this!  The one who is watching them is Yozora, a character who appeared earlier in the game in a commercial right before you enter the Toy Box world.  As you might have noticed, he has two different color eyes; red and blue.  Look back at the lighting and colors of Riku’s surroundings and Sora’s surroundings.  Red and blue!  I have a feeling that if they are in different realities, he can travel between the two, just like Joshua did in Dream Drop Distance.

And of course, that is the Master of Masters we see at the very end, but he’s a story for another day.

Who Is Yozora?

That’s a good question, isn’t it?  It’s what we’re all asking, right?  Well, there’s lots of theories going around.  First of all, I want to talk about the alternate realities.

At the end of the ReMind trailer, Sora is in a world that we have never seen before, but it is awfully similar to The Final World, the place between life and death.  Except in this world, it is night, and this could have HUGE meanings here.

As Sora explores this place, he runs into Yozora as they speak the line “I’ve been having these weird thoughts lately…like, is any of this for real, or not?”

So WHAT does this mean?  As I said, this world is very similar to The Final World, except that’s it’s night instead of day.  Not only could this mean it’s an alternate reality, but it could give us some hints as to who Yozora is too.

The name “Yozora” means “night sky”.  There is someone else in the Square Enix world that has a similar translation for their name.  The Final Fantasy 15 protagonist, Noctis Lucis Caelum, can have his name translated to “night light sky”, or, “the sky at nighttime”.  The fact that this other world is night could be giving us this hint.

There are other connections to Noctis as well, such as Yozora’s origin.  Way back before it was Final Fantasy 15, it was Versus 13, a game directed by Tetsuya Nomura, the director of Kingdom Hearts.  Well, the idea didn’t make it and the project got handed over to Hajime Tabata, where it became Final Fantasy 15.

In Kingdom Hearts III, we see that Nomura has recycled the idea for Versus 13, turning into Verum Rex.  Take a look at the commercial of the game as it was seen in the Toy Box world…

Those characters sure do look familiar, don’t they?  Yozora not only LOOKS a lot like Noctis, but if you remember in the secret ending, it also played what is now called Beloved Somnus, a mix between the theme of Kingdom Hearts, Dearly Beloved, and the theme of Final Fantasy 15, Somnus.

So this COULD be an alternate Noctis.  We do not know who does Yozora’s voice yet, and it doesn’t really sound like Noctis, I mean, only a little.  But this isn’t the only theory about Yozora out there.  I’ve seen a lot of people thinking he could be an alternate Riku, because, to be honest, they look a lot alike.  Like, a lot.

But there’s also the chance that this isn’t an alternate reality and Yozora is just his own character.  In fact, many people believe he could be the new secret boss…that will be fun…

What Else Can We Expect To See?

There will most likely be a lot to see.  We’ve got Lingering Will, we’ve got Namine, we’ve got all these new bosses and whatnot.  And, for the first time in the Kingdom Hearts series, we’ve got PLAYABLE KAIRI!!!  This has been something that a TON of people have been wanting, our wish has been granted, and I am thrilled!

I’m also looking forward to seeing what else we can find out about the Master of Masters and what is inside the dang black box!  The fandom has been waiting FOREVER, and this could be it!  Of course, this DLC will probably ask more questions than it answers.

Guys, I’ve been searching through old cutscenes, watching the Back Cover movie, keeping up with the Kingdom Hearts: Chi cutscenes, and rewatching all of the openings to every Kingdom Hearts game to find even the slightest hint of what’s going on here.  The openings are so symbolic that it could be hiding something, but I have yet to find anything that would relate to what’s going on in the DLC, although the opening for Kingdom Hearts III does seem to show some stuff that might happen…not for sure, though.

So what do you think about all of this?  I’d love to know what kind of theories you’ve got!  Start a conversation going in the comments below!  As always, God bless, and have fun with that DLC!
