It’s time for another throwback! I’ve been doing a lot of throwbacks relating to real life experiences, but I thing I want to look back at something in the fictional world now! But that left me with a predicament…which fictional event do I talk about?! Eventually, I decided to bring up an event from my favorite movies: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Once I had where the event would be coming from, the throwback came right to my mind…
That Time Eowyn Defeated the Lord of the Nazgul
Y’all. This scene is the bomb! For the last two movies, Eowyn was kinda feeling a little underappreciated because all the men were grouping her with the other women. Eowyn wanted to fight with the men and protect their people. None of them would let her go, so she took things into her own hands. She put on armor and rode to the final battle, with her comrades none the wiser that she wasn’t a man. Then we get to the point where the Lord of the Nazgul arrives on the scene, and things look pretty dire for our heroes. No one can seem to defeat him, and many die trying. Eowyn might be afraid, but she faces off with him. The Witch-King tells her that he can be defeated by no man, to which Eowyn replies with the famous line: “I’m no man!” She then kills the Nazgul and wins this battle. I was so impressed with this scene when I first watched it. Like, come on??? This is how you write strong female characters!
