Throwback Thursday 10/20/22

Hey guys! I almost didn’t get to this week’s throwback, but I told myself to suck it up and post! I’ve just spent the last two hours working on decorating my workplace door since the school is doing a contest, and my coworkers and I REALLY want to win! Anyways, since I kind of want to chill out after that, I decided to go with something simple. Check it out!

That Time I Started My First Day At Work

I had different jobs growing up, but none of them were what I would call real jobs. For example, in high school I was picked to read and review books for this publishing site, so I got to read some manuscripts before they were published. That was fun, but I didn’t get paid… Then, I taught piano for a while, but it was a pretty unreliable job since people would randomly stop communicating with me, or just stop coming to lessons. It’s just been stuff like that pretty much!

But my sophomore year of college, I met my future supervisor at a fair my school was putting on. She told me about the INRW Lab my school has (it’s a tutoring lab for students who struggle with reading and writing), and she suggested I apply for it. Apparently she was good friends with one of my writing professors, so word got around that I liked to write essays and I was good at it.

Fast forward to December or January, I turned in my application and my resume, and I played the waiting game. I got the job, but it was a long process! Finally, I started work on Valentine’s Day 2022! I was nervous, but my supervisor showed me how everything worked. I got my own desk with a computer and a headset, and I was feeling pretty official! It was mostly Zoom tutoring sessions back then, since my school wasn’t at full capacity due to student enrollment being incredibly low.

The fun thing about this job is that I can get my school work done, or just hang out, until a student comes in needing help. I also have, like, the greatest coworkers in the world! I was a little shy at first, especially on my first day, but I eventually warmed up to them, and now we’re pretty much like family, if you ask me.

These days, I’ve taken on a little more responsibility in this career, but I always look back at my first day rather fondly.

What do you think about this throwback? What was it like on your first day of work? Let me know in the comments below! And as always, God bless y’all and have a wonderful weekend!
