Hey guys! I really can’t remember the last time I did a writing update, but here it is! If you’re new to this blog, then my Writing Updates series is just me talking about my writing journey and hopefully giving some tips for those of you who are writers as well!
I started school again last week, so my schedule has been a little rocky lately, but I have miraculously found some time to squeeze in a little writing. If you’ve read my last writing updates that I released some time ago, you might remember the story that I called #Dark Tides. These days I refer to it as Raven King, even though I’m not sure if I’ll actually settle on that as a title. I’m still thinking about that!
I’ve been working on this book since November 2020, and I’m finally almost done with the third draft. Technically I was supposed to be finished with this draft months ago, but oh well! I do what I can with the time I have. I’ve got two more chapters in the third draft, and I’m more than halfway done with the fourth draft, so I expect to be on the fifth draft in two weeks.
The third draft has probably been the most difficult so far. It literally took me 5-6 months to write out the first draft, but since then, the story has changed A LOT. For the second draft, I knew I wanted to revise the story, but I still didn’t really know where I wanted to go with it. So when the third draft came around, I ended up rewriting most of the chapters and putting in entirely new stuff. I like it so much better now! That being said, it’s taken me a while to get it the way I want it. The last two chapters are going to be completely new to the story, and I actually just changed my mind about the events of one of them since stuff didn’t make sense, so now I’ve got to plan that one out again… Anyway, I have an idea what I want to do with it, so it shouldn’t take too long!
Another development that came with the third draft was my decision to cut the book in half to make it a duology. Duologies are becoming more popular, or so I have seen, so I thought it would be wise. Plus, you don’t really want to submit a long book as your debut, and this book was getting pretty long, so yeah.
The first book was 23 three chapters, which I think is pretty good! My plan is to get the last two chapters written and get another fourth draft chapter before next week, so fingers crossed! I finished the fourth draft of chapter 14 today, and I’m hoping to write at least half of chapter 22 done. Wish me luck!
That’s about it! Writing has been going pretty good lately, all things considered, so thank God! I hope your writing journey is going great as well! Let me know how it’s been in the comments below!
And as always, God bless y’all and have a wonderful holiday weekend!
