Hey guys! We are thirteen days into the celebration, so I thought it would be nice to dedicate the thirteenth day to Organization 13! That being said, I’ll give a run down of the members, along with their past lives (that is, if we know them). Take a look!
Xemnas is the Nobody of Terra-Xehanort. However, before he lost his heart, he stole Ansem the Wise’s name (rude). When he lost his heart, he was separated in to Xemnas the Nobody, and Ansem the Seeker of Darkness (Xemnas is one of the only characters to have a Heartless with a human form). Oh, and by the way, to get their Nobody names, they simply swam the letters around in their original name and add an X. I believe the X is the sigil which lets Xehanort know where someone is at all times (this was revealed in Dream Drop distance, and most every character had a sigil at that point so Xehanort could keep track of them). Anyway, Xemnas is the head honcho of Organization 13. One of my favorite things about Xemnas is that he seems to remember his life as Terra, is only vaguely. Of course, his odd behaviors could be interpreted differently. He has a habit of talking to Aqua’s armor, which he has stored in one of the Castle Oblivion chambers. This could either be that he has memories of being Terra, as I mentioned, or that he simply remembers being rescued from the Realm of Darkness by her when he was Terra-Xehanort. I guess it depends on how you look at it!
Xigbar is a rather complicated guy. His Somebody is Braig, but actually, his REAL name all along was Luxu. If you’ve been keeping up with these posts, then you know that Luxu was the sixth apprentice of the Master of Masters. He was tasked with keeping watch over the other five apprentices, and to journey through time with the No Name Keyblade so the Master could see into the future (his eye was implanted into the No Name Keyblade). Luxu was successful in this, though his heart had to jump from body to body in order to survive for so long. According to him in Kingdom Hearts III, Xigbar was his final body.
Xaldin is the quiet one. He barely says anything, even as his Somebody. There’s really not that much to know about him, haha! As Dilan, Xaldin’s Somebody, he was an apprentice of Ansem the Wise (a scientist). He stood guard at the door of the lab with his buddy, Aeleus (who I’ll talk about in a moment). He’s an intimidating guy, but we all know he’s a big softie on the inside!
Vexen is one of my favorite Organization members. He was another apprentice of Ansem the Wise and a pretty good scientist himself. He created the Replicas, and thanks to him, Roxas, Xion, and Namine were able to return after he abandoned Org. 13 in order to help the 7 Guardians of Light. He’s close with member #6, Zexion, who I’ll be talking about here soon. As Even, he practically raised Zexion, so they have a sort of father-son relationship. In Chain of Memories, he was one of the Org. members who tried to turn against Xemnas, but it didn’t work out so well for him. He was killed by Axel, and returned as his Somebody. However, he decided to give up his heart again to work for Xemnas, but eventually changed his mind and turned his focus on doing what was right.
Like Xaldin, there’s not much to say about Lexaeus. He was another of Ansem the Wise’s apprentices and a guard alongside Dilan. The two are close friends though they barely ever talk to each other. I mean, they don’t really talk much period! Lexaeus was another member who chose to turn traitor on Xemnas in Chain of Memories, but he was killed by Sora and returned as his Somebody, Aeleus.
When Ienzo lost his heart, he was only around 8-9 years old. He was one of Ansem the Wise’s apprentices and was raised by Vexen. In Chain of Memories, Zexion chose to join Vexen in turning against Xemnas. By this point, he’s coming into his own as a scientist, but it doesn’t last long. Axel ends up ordering Riku Replica to kill Zexion, and the kid returns to his Somebody. Funny enough, as Ienzo, he’s a lot more talkative and friendly. It’s nice to have him as a good guy now!
Saix is probably my favorite Organization member besides Axel. As Isa, he was best friends with Axel’s Somebody, Lea. Unfortunately, the two happened to be in the Radiant Garden lab when Ansem the Wise’s apprentices lost their hearts, and Terra-Xehanort got them too. Once Roxas and Xion got involved with Axel (and even before that), Saix’s friendship with Axel was torn apart and they became more like enemies. Saix was devoted to Xemnas, only because he was searching for a girl (Project X) who he thought Xemnas might know about. In Kingdom Hearts III, Saix dies, but not before apologizing to Lea for his actions. When he returns as his Somebody, we get to see Isa hanging out with Lea, Roxas, and Xion!
Axel has been a large part of the series for a long time. He was sent to Castle Oblivion in Chain of Memories in order to take down those who were planning to turn against Xemnas. He succeeded (with Sora’s help), but he wasn’t all that sure he wanted to follow Xemnas himself. After the deaths of Roxas and Xion, Axel began to have a change of heart. Axel has a notoriously heartbreaking death in Kingdom Hearts II. Want to know a fun fact? Axel was supposed to stay dead, but the fandom threw such a fit that they ended up bringing him back! I’m not exactly sure whether this meant Chain of Memories was supposed to be his last appearance, or KHII was. Either way, he returned as his Somebody, Lea, and trained with Kairi to use a keyblade.
We don’t know anything about Demyx these days. He’s a strange guy, and that’s about all you can say about him. He meets his demise in Kingdom Hearts II at the hands of Sora, but returns in Kingdom Hearts III as a Nobody again. Like Vexen, he joined the New Organization 13, but changed his mind and ended up helping the Guardians of Light. I don’t know what happens to him after the events of Kingdom Hearts III, though. A large portion of the fandom seem to believe he is the Master of Masters, and sometimes it’s hard to argue with that. We’ll just have to see!
Luxord is another guy we don’t know much about. He seems to know more than he lets on, and that’s for sure! In the ReMind DLC, Luxord confronts Xigbar since he figures something’s up with him, and he was right, since Xigbar is Luxu. Also, in the secret ending of this DLC, we see Yozora riding in the back of a car. We don’t see much of the driver, but we see and hear enough for there to be a theory that the driver is Luxord. If this is the case, Luxord could be from an alternate universe. As if the series wasn’t complicated enough already!
Marluxia is one of my favorite Organization members. We don’t get a lot of screen time with him as Marluxia, but he is one of the main characters in Union X as Lauriam. In Union X, he was one of the five new Union Leaders. His younger sister, Strelitzia, was supposed to be one with him, but she was mysteriously murdered. Later they find out that it was Ventus who murdered Strelitiza and took her place, but it wasn’t entirely his fault since Darkness was controlling him. As Marluxia, he was pretty much the leader of the group who was turning against Xemnas. He seems to have a thing going on with Larxene…
Larxene is probably the loudest member of the Org. She’s rude, cruel, and speaks whatever pops into her head. She has some kind of grudge against Demyx, and some kind of crush on Marluxia (she pretty much admits it in her journal entry in the Character Files book). Sora defeats her in Chain of Memories, but she returns in Kingdom Hearts III as part of the New Organization 13. At the end of this game, before she dies, she tells Sora she only joined the NO13 because she was “along for the ride”. When Sora questioned who she was along for the ride with, she replies with “My secret”. Most of the fandom just assumed she meant Marluxia. She’s been following him around since her time as her Somebody, Elrena, and the two clearly have some sort of relationship going on.
Last but not least, Roxas joined the Organization last (besides Xion). He was created when Sora unlocked his own heart to free Kairi, so since Roxas is the Nobody of a keyblade wielder, he also has a keyblade. He becomes fast friends with Axel and Xion and hangs out with them for the majority of his life. After Xion dies, Roxas confronts Riku, but is defeated. He is put into a data version of Twilight Town so he can be occupied with other things while Namine tries to repair Sora’s memory. After the first two hours of Kingdom Hearts II, Roxas gives himself up so Sora can return. He made his triumphant return in Kingdom Hearts III!
Okay, okay, Xion is a part of Org. 13. But technically, she’s not! She was created by Vexen to siphon out Roxas’ power, but ended up siphoning out Sora’s memories, too, preventing him from waking from his coma. When she realized this, she tricked Roxas into fighting and killing her. In Kingdom Hearts III, she was recreated and forced into the New Organization 13, but at the end, she was able to break away from Xemnas’ control and she reunited with her friends.
That’s all of them! While there is a lot we know about most of the Organization members, there is still some secrets. I’m hoping we will get some answers soon! So what are your thoughts on Org. 13? Do you have a favorite member? Let me know in the comments below!
God bless y’all and have a great day!
