A Kingdom Hearts Celebration Day 8: (Unpopular?) Opinions

Hey guys! For today, I decided to do something that I think will be interesting, though I am a little nervous! As you can tell from the title, I’ll be talking about a few of my opinions about Kingdom Hearts that may or may not be unpopular with the rest of the fandom. Some of them I know others feel the same way, though there are some that make me wonder how much someone might want to fight me if I said them out loud in front of a room full of diehard Kingdom Hearts fans. I guess we’ll see! Check them out!

I Have a Love-Hate Relationship The Twilight Town Trio

And no, I don’t mean Axel, Roxas, and Xion (that’s the Sea Salt Trio). I’m talking about Hayner, Pence, and Olette. Hate is a strong word for these three, but sometimes they really get on my nerves. I have to admit that I’m okay with them at certain times. They’re a little nostalgic for me because of their presence in Kingdom Hearts II, but by Kingdom Hearts III, I was kind of wondering what the point of having them around was. Yeah, I know they were friends with Roxas (kind of), but honestly the end annoyed me when they crashed the little reunion part with Lea, Roxas, Xion, and Isa. I felt like it should have been a moment for those four. I actually brought up my annoyance with my sister, and she brought up a funny point. If those three hadn’t shown up, can you imagine how awkward that meet-up with Lea, Roxas, Xion, and Isa would be? They were enemies for so long, and there’s so much history between Lea and Isa that it would almost be painful. I didn’t think about that until my sister mentioned it, but yeah, I can totally see that happening. So does that mean Hayner, Pence, and Olette served as buffers here? As much as I can get annoyed with these three, as I said, I’m okay with them most of the time. Sometimes I don’t mind they’re appearance a the end of KHIII, sometimes I do. It depends on how I’m feeling I guess, haha!

Chain of Memories is an Amazing Game

I’m sure a lot of people agree with this. CoM has a great story, but the gameplay can get annoying pretty fast. The first time I played it, I hated it so much I rage quite. The second time, I grew to love it. I love the strategy of having to plan out which cards you’ll deal in battle, and it’s extremely fast-paced so you have to think fast when dealing them. The bosses can be a major headache, but once you get the gameplay down, it can be fun to figure it all out. It’s pretty awesome!

Honestly, Terra is the Worst…Kind Of

Before I go further, I will say that Terra is generally a boring guy. I’m not that big of a fan of his story in Birth By Sleep, and I just don’t feel like he gets much character development as some of the other characters. Terra falls into darkness and becomes a vessel for Xehanort, so he’s Terra-Xehanort for the majority of the series. Although I say all this, when I say that Terra is the worst, I’m actually referring to his gameplay. I actually do appreciate Terra as a character, though I do think he could do a little more. But man, he is SLOW. I hate fighting as him because, compared to Ventus and Aqua, it feels like he’s going in slow motion. The final battle in Terra’s story is a pain in the neck because he is so slow, and I can’t stand it. It almost made me rage quite both times I played BBS.

But besides that, Terra is an okay dude.

King Mickey Can Just Get Out

Hear me out, okay? Growing up, I loved Mickey Mouse. When I started playing Kingdom Hearts, not so much. He always seems to get lost whenever the going gets too hard for everyone. There’s literally memes about how he always disappears when they need him most. I mean, it’s like when you need Donald Duck to heal you, but he’s too interested in casting Thundaga and using up all the MP and Ethers. It’s very annoying. But if I’m being entirely truthful, I do still love Mickey Mouse, and I still root for him in the game, but he really needs to step up his game! Is he a keyblade master, or what?

I’m Sick of Hearing Cid’s Voice

I’m sorry, but Cid drives me crazy. Whenever I see him coming, I want to hide, because I can’t stand the sound of his voice. I love Cid in Final Fantasy, but I just wish they could have picked a better voice actor for him. I felt the same way when I watched Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. It pains me to hear it. I’m hoping that they’ll change out the voice actor, especially for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, because I don’t know how much I can take of that voice…

Time Travel Didn’t Hurt Kingdom Hearts

Time travel is a sketchy thing to bring into fiction these days, and I know a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans might not have appreciated it’s inclusion in the Kingdom Hearts plot. It made things more confusing than they already were, and it’s cliché and a hefty plot device. But I don’t mind it at all. In fact, I think it was a good idea to bring time travel in Kingdom Hearts. Yes, it made the plot more convoluted, but I think it also makes the plot stronger. There’s so many possibilities for the plot direction, and I’m excited to see where it goes. But with that excitement is a bit of wariness, because, as I said, time travel is a sketchy thing to bring into a story. They could easily mess up Kingdom Hearts with one wrong move, so I just hope they can keep up the good work.

That’s all I’ll be discussing today! I know I probably have a few more, but I’ll save those for another time. Anyway, now I want to know what your possibly unpopular Kingdom Hearts opinions are! Let me know in the comments below!

God bless and have a great day!
