Hey guys! This is going to be a big year for Square Enix, and that is because this year is the 20th anniversary for Kingdom Hearts! I am so excited for what things they might have in store for the celebration! I am going to be taking part in that celebration in a number of ways, and one of those ways will be that up until March 28th (Kingdom Hearts’ anniversary), all of the quotes in the Quote of the Week posts will be from Kingdom Hearts. Let’s kick this off with one of my favorites…

“I wanted to see Roxas. He…was the only one I liked… He made me feel…like I hade a heart. It’s kind of…funny… You make me feel…the same…” – Axel (Kingdom Hearts 2)

You know, I thought since Kingdom Hearts is a game full of feelings, I thought we’d start with one that will really hit in the feels. These were some of Axel’s dying words after he betrayed Organization 13 to help Sora and Co., and geez, this scene smacks me in the face every time. Axel quickly became one of my favorite characters, and then he just had to go and die. What’s worse is that he didn’t actually get to see Roxas, his best friend, before he died. Sora was the closest thing he got, since Sora is Roxas’ Somebody (pretty much his “other half”).

Yeah, Axel does come back, but as his Somebody, Lea. Fun fact: Axel was originally going to stay dead, but everyone threw such a gigantic fit that they ended up having to bring him back (as Lea, of course). I like to think this is actually what inspired his famous line in Kingdom Hearts 3 – “You kidding? Do you know how popular I am? I got loads of people rootin’ for me. Sorry, boss. No one axes Axel. Got it memorized?”
