Hey guys! The holidays are in full swing, and this means that Christmas break is almost here! By the time you’re reading this, I’ll only have a few days of school left. And a break means more time to read! I’ve got some exciting stuff planned for December, and I can’t wait to share it with y’all! Anyways, for now let’s take a look at what I read in November!
Champion by Marie Lu
Genre: Science Fiction/Dystopian
Synopsis: June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic—and each other—and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the government’s elite circles as Princeps-Elect, while Day has been assigned a high-level military position.
But neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them: just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republic’s border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her country’s defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything.

It’s been a couple weeks since I read this, and I’m still not entirely sure what my feelings towards this book are. I kind of have a hate-love relationship when it comes to the final book in a series, and it was no different with this one. Final books can sometimes feel rushed, and they sometimes lack the depth the books before it had, and I feel like that was the case with Champion. However, I’m not saying I didn’t like this book at all! I really enjoyed it and it took me on a wild emotional rollercoaster.
But that ending! The ending was like a punch in the face. I feel like I should have seen the ending coming mile away, but I was still surprised (and completely horrified). If I hadn’t been in public when reading this, I would have probably cried, because I was close to it, haha! I’m really surprised I didn’t catapult the book across the room.
I was even more surprised to find out that Marie Lu’s book, Rebel, is actually another book in the Legend series. I had seen Rebel around, but I never realized what it was about. Of course, I want to read it as soon as possible!
Even though the plot seemed a little rushed, I do think this is a book worth reading, so definitely get into the Legend series if you haven’t yet!

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Vol. 9 by Akira Himekawa
Genre: Manga
Synopsis: Once upon a time, wizards tried to conquer the Sacred Realm of Hyrule. The Spirits of Light sealed the wizards’ power within the Shadow Crystal and banished them to the Twilight Realm beyond the Mirror of Twilight. Now, an evil menace is trying to find Midna, Princess of the Twilight Realm, and the fragments of the Shadow Crystal to gain the power to rule over both the Twilight Realm and the World of Light.

As is typical with these manga, I read this in one setting. I have the same feelings for it as I did the last volume, which means that the feelings are mixed. I felt that this one was a little rushed (which might only be because I read it in one setting) and a mite too dull, because most of it was just the characters talking too each other. The last volume did have a lot more action in it, so this one is probably my least favorite so far.
That doesn’t mean that I didn’t like it at all, I still quite enjoyed it! It brought back a lot of memories of playing the game when I was little, since in this volume Link and Midna finally traveled to one of my favorite locations in the game, which was the Twilight Realm. I listened to the soundtrack that went with it in the game (as I usually do with this series) and it totally transported me to the dark, creepy world of Twilight. The art was gorgeous as usual, and I really loved seeing the character development that Link has gone through shine! I highly recommend this series if you are a Legend of Zelda fan, or even a fan of manga!
