Hey guys! I’m here with another quote! I recently started taking the short (free) writing courses on Reedsy.com, and the first course I’m taking is about showing, not telling. In the first lesson, they had a quote from an author on the subject, and it was one I really liked. I just knew I had to share it with my lovely readers! Take a look!
“Don’t tell me the moon is shining. Show me the glint of light on broken glass.” – Anton Chekhov
I think showing and not telling in writing is something that I struggle with the most. I often get caught up in the scenes I write and forget about sensory details. I forget that readers can imagine things without me leading them by the hand the whole way. This course has been really helpful so far, and I’ve been getting some practice on showing instead of telling! I highly recommend their site, so check it out when you have time!
What do you think about this quote? Let me know in the comments below! And as always, God bless y’all and have a wonderful week!
