Star Wars: Interesting Facts

This weekend was the long awaited release of Timothy Zahn’s book Star Wars: Thrawn. To celebrate, how about I tell you a few facts about the art-loving Grand Admiral?

5 Facts About Grand Admiral Thrawn

1. He Died…

…But it’s non-canon now, so we don’t really have to worry about it.  While Thrawn was in command of his ship, the Chimaera, his trusted bodyguard, Rukh, decided he didn’t want to work for the Grand Admiral anymore.  This resulting in Rukh betraying Thrawn and stabbing him in the chest.  Afterwards, the entire Empire fell and divided into many, smaller Empires, which didn’t really work out.  I guess they really needed Thrawn!

2. He knows Two Languages

While the in the Expanded Universe he knows a lot more, in canon there are only two that he is fluent in; Basic (English) which he had to learn, and his native language, Sy Bisti.  The new Thrawn book tells more about him learning basic, so I won’t say anything to give away spoilers!

3. “Thrawn” Is Just His Nickname

Apparently where Thrawn comes from, they like to give great, big, long names, and the Grand Admiral’s was quite a mouth full; Mitth’raw’nuruodo.  I can’t even pronounce that name!  The name was deemed too difficult to say by Thrawn and suggested that people just call him Thrawn for short.  But Thrawn wasn’t the only one with a incredibly hard-to-say name…

4. Thrawn Had A Brother

Yep.  Thrawn’s brother also had an interesting name.  Mitth’ras’safis, who they called “Thrass” for short, was Thrawn’s devoted brother.  You might have noticed that I said Thrawn “had” a brother.  This is because it is now non-canon as well.  There is another reason to that too, though.  In one of Timothy Zahn’s older books, Thrass sadly died while protecting his people, with a fellow Jedi by the name of Lorana Jinzler.

5. The Interesting Connection Between Thrawn’s Voice And Galen Erso From Rogue One

Even though Thrawn’s brother is non-canon, there is still an connection somewhere. Remember Galen Erso from Rogue One?  Well, the characters actor, Mads Mikkelsen, is actually the brother of Thrawn’s voice actor for Star Wars Rebels, Lars Mikkelsen.  Pretty cool, huh?

So there they are!  What did you think about those facts?  Do you have any facts about Thrawn?  If so, let me know what they are in the comments!
