Star Wars: Interesting Facts

Good news, Star Wars fans!  Tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. EST the long awaited Obi-Wan-Kenobi vs. Darth Maul rematch will arrive!  While we countdown the final hours until we finally get to see “Twin Suns”, how about I give you a few interesting facts about Maul and Kenobi?

4 Facts About Obi-Wan-Kenobi

1. He’s The First Jedi To Defeat A Sith In A Thousand Years

No Jedi has ever been lucky enough to beat a Sith since the Old Republic days, that is until Kenobi arrived.  Even though he didn’t kill Darth Maul, he won the battle fair and square.

2. He Almost Had Another Padawan After Anakin

In the 2008 movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Anakin got a new padawan, Ahsoka Tano.  At the beginning of the movie, we see Kenobi and Anakin talking about getting padawans.  While Anakin isn’t thrilled about training young Jedi, Kenobi is all for it.  He was surprised when Ahsoka arrived to inform them that Yoda had assigned her to be Anakin’s apprentice instead.  Anakin didn’t want her at first, but he got over it.

3. He Once Faked Death

In the Clone Wars animated series the Jedi thought that there was going to be an attempt on Chancellor Palpatine’s life.  They were ready to go to great lengths to make sure that the Chancellor would be kept safe, so the Jedi hired a bounty hunter to ‘kill’ Kenobi.  With everyone thinking that he was dead, Kenobi went undercover as the man who shot him to see what the Sith were planning.  To make sure that the secret that he wasn’t really dead didn’t get out, they didn’t let Anakin and Ahsoka know the plan.

4. He Almost Left The Jedi Order For The Duchess Of Mandalore

If you watched the Clone Wars series, then you probably know that Kenobi has feelings for the Mandalorian Duchess, Satine Kryze.  Back before The Phantom Menace, Kenobi and Qui-Gon-Jinn were sent to Mandalore to protect Duchess Satine.  During their stay, there was an attack on Satine’s Palace.  To protect the Duchess, Kenobi tried to carry her out of the palace himself, to which he proceeded to trip and drop her on the floor.  Satine apparently still has a scar from the event.  Years later when they met back up again, Satine told him her true feelings for him, to which Kenobi replied that if she had told him all those years ago he would have left the Jedi Order for her.

4 Facts About Darth Maul

1. He has Two Hearts

Darth Maul is a Zabrak, which means he has two hearts.  Though, I’m not sure what the extra heart does.  Maybe Darth Maul surviving getting his legs chopped off had a little something to do with it?

2. He Can Perform The Mind Probe

You may remember the trick that Kylo Ren did to Poe and Rey in The Force Awakens to get information he needed.  It’s called the Mind Probe, and it is very effective at getting Sith what they want.  In the Star Wars Rebels episode “The Holocrons of Fate”, Darth Maul revealed that he had the power to look into people’s minds with the force when he performed it on Hera Syndulla to find out more about Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger.  This is one of my most favorite Force abilities!

3. He Died For Real Before

But it was in the Expanded Universe, so it’s non-canon now.  The story is that Maul followed Kenobi everywhere he went.  He even found Anakin, thinking it was Obi-Wan, after being defeated by Kenobi on Mustafar.  Upon arriving on Tatooine, Maul killed Watto and put a young Luke Skywalker and his family in danger to make Kenobi come out of hiding.  His plan worked and a battle followed.  Kenobi disarmed Maul, literally, and was about to kill him when he found that he didn’t have the heart to do so.  The Lars family was watching nearby, and Owen did the deed of killing the Sith himself.

4. He Was Suppose To Die In Star Wars Rebels Season 2

In the script for the Star Wars Rebels season 2 finale, “Twilight of the Apprentice”, Maul was originally meant to be killed off by Darth Vader.  While that battle might have been exciting, it was cut from the script for taking up too much time, and the Director thought that the attention should be drawn to the Vader vs. Ahsoka battle since it was suppose to be emotional.  I’m glad too, because that would have been upsetting for Maul to return only to be killed of in the same episode.

There are lots of interesting things about these characters.  If you know another interesting fact about them be sure to leave it in the comment section.  I can’t wait to see Maul meet back up with his nemesis.  I know it’s kind of obvious that Maul will never kill Kenobi, but I’m hoping that the Jedi might show some mercy.  Go Maul!
